has become a bit of an institution in Stellenbosch over the years.
Mette’s have become well-known and respected in Stellenbosch as a company that delivers great service that uses only top quality and new parts.
Claus Werner Mette left Hamburg, Germany in 1952 as a 9 year old with his parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. They travelled by car from Hamburg, via Gibraltar, through Africa for more than 6 months to finally settle in Okahandja in Namibia.
Claus Werner completed his apprenticeship with Diesel-Electric Bosch in Windhoek and after that he managed various workshops and branches for Diesel-Electric for a further 15 years.
After gaining lots of experience and expertise over the years the family moved to Stellenbosch, South Africa in 1975 where Claus Werner started his own business. Mette’s Auto Electrical was born!
He started his new workshop with his wife, Ingeborg, and one other general worker in a small asbestos barn on the premises that is today known as Toyota Dealers.
Claus Werner’s son, Claus-Peter, joined the business in 1994 and took it over in 2007. Claus Werner is still involved today, but is set to finally retire in the year 2015 / 2016.
Over the past 40 years Mette’s Auto Electrical has become a picture of quality workmanship and German precision. This small, family run business has kept pace with the development of modern vehicles.
Mette’s Auto Electrical of Stellenbosch is truly a family run business where staff is treated like family – in fact, some of them have been with Mette’s for longer than 30 years.
